Bondi Reveals Investigation into Trump Opponents and Jeffrey Epstein Connections
On Friday, Pam Bondi assigned interim US attorney Jay Clayton to head an inquiry into opponents of the President and their connections with Jeffrey Epstein. This decision came shortly after the president instructed her to initiate the probe.
During an announcement, the Attorney General commended Jay Clayton as “among the nation’s top prosecutors”. The official remarked, “The department will handle this matter promptly and thoroughly to provide clarity for citizens.”
This development contrasts with a recent memorandum from justice department officials which declared that documents related to Epstein lacked grounds for additional investigations. According to the memo, investigators “found no proof justifying probes into uncharged individuals”
The President Demands Scrutiny of Political Opponents in Epstein Matter
The announcement coincides with increasing demands from Trump on lawmakers to oppose the full release of files concerning Epstein before an upcoming House vote next week. Many Republicans are expected to support the release.
Newly public communications from Epstein have brought attention to Trump’s previous connections with the convicted criminal, including details that his knowledge of Epstein’s behavior exceeded prior admissions.
That same day, the President declared he would direct the Department of Justice to investigate Epstein’s ties with Democrats, including Bill Clinton, Larry Summers and Reid Hoffman. Paradoxically, he also referred to the “Epstein situation” as a “deception”.
