Former FBI director James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to congressional representatives and impeding a lawmaking procedure.

Mr Comey's legal representative filed the answer acting as his counsel in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.

The defense lawyer stated he would try to have the proceedings dismissed for various causes including that his client, a opponent of President Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

James Comey was indicted just days after Donald Trump pushed his attorney general to move forward against him.

Court Developments

In court on Wednesday, his attorney the legal representative advised the magistrate they intended to submit several legal requests to dismiss the proceedings before a legal hearing, claiming the legal action was retaliatory and that a US attorney was unlawfully appointed to assume control of the proceedings.

Mr Comey's legal matter was initially handled by a Virginia prosecutor, who stepped down under influence from the former president after his probe into a different opponent - the New York official - did not succeed to file indictments.

Judicial Environment

James Comey appeared in optimistic frame of mind as he entered the court on Wednesday, speaking with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was supported by his partner, Patrice Failor and offspring his daughter, a government attorney who the former government dismissed.

Following the reading to the judge state his legal protections and the dual charges against him in legal proceedings on mid-week, Mr Comey was inquired if he understood the charges.

"I do your honour. Thank you very much," he told the court.

Historical Information

Mr Comey was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from four years and was dismissed about four months into Trump's first administration as president. At the time, Mr Comey was directing an investigation into international campaign influence and whether there were any connections between Russia and the election effort.

During his tenure, James Comey triggered a counter-response from the Democratic party when he stated just shortly prior to the national vote that he was probing presidential nominee Clinton's use of a private email server. Charges against Clinton were never brought, causing disapproval from Republicans as well.

Ongoing Accusations

Government attorneys assert James Comey provided false information to Congress during a congressional hearing in 2020 when he was being interrogated about both the previous examination as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They say he provided false information to the legislative body by claiming he had not permitted someone at the FBI to disclose to journalistic entities data about the FBI investigations.

Government lawyers also charge Mr Comey of "wrongfully trying to affect, obstruct and delay" the legislative group by making false statements to it.

Individual Responses

In a video the former director posted to his Instagram after he was accused, he said he was innocent and charged Trump of acting like a "tyrant".

"My family and I have known for years that there are costs to challenging the former president," he said. "We will not live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he added. "Thus initiate a legal proceeding."

The accusations against Mr Comey emerged after Donald Trump posted on social media insisting on his attorney general, Pam Bondi, charge the former director and additional individuals.
