Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
