Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United only seven months after leading insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a contract joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year spell with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.

Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting abusive songs about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Past History Involving Bamford and Wilder

The pair had a past prior to Leeds won promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

Everything seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford looking to revive his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Patrick.”
