Person Who Approached Ariana Grande during Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who jumped over a barricade and touched celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.
The man, twenty-six, was given a sentence to over a week in jail for disrupting public order and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority informed news outlets.
He forced his way past photographers and rushed toward the actress and singer, who was participating in the regional launch for the film on 13 November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
Wen has a history of causing disturbances at events and celebrity events, including jumping on stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The incident provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with several individuals claiming he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The celebrity has discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her show in the English city in May 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and hurt numerous attendees.
Throughout the court proceedings, the court heard he had attempted to intrude on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to local news sources.
He then made a another effort to breach security. Protection personnel prevented him and pinned him down.
He then uploaded videos expressing gratitude to the star for allowing his presence and said he was "free."
Authorities arrested him the next day and brought charges against him with public nuisance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Court Judge the magistrate was referenced by Channel News Asia as stating that Wen was "attention seeking", noting that he was mistaken to assume he would not face any penalties.
The actress has not spoken about the incident.
Erivo mentioned the situation to a media outlet, stating that she "simply desired to make sure my friend was safe."
"I believe he didn't intend us harm, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I aimed to make sure that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she commented.
