Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the team's ten-game winless beginning to the top-flight season.
And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the club - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.
The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club directors as they begin the search of appointing a new head coach.
O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.
The former West Ham midfielder is out of work meaning the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
