Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with performances like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
