Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Tension on the Manager
Spurs fans who booed goalkeeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.
Spurs conceded two scores in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight home defeat of 2025.
But the primary talking point was Fulham's second goal when Vicario lost the ball well beyond his area.
The goalkeeper came out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the touchline.
However, rather than booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
King passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds afterwards when the ball went to Vicario once more, some Spurs supporters booed him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.
A particular of those booing episodes really irritated the manager.
"I heard a few of our supporters apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Dane commented regarding the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be real Spurs fans that do that. Fair enough booing following the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period showing.
Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the next score was "totally preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the part Vicario is performing. He's a excellent team player, he's a real leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Match
Italian national team Vicario is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old said following the match that he had to accept the feedback.
"The second score was a mistake of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a poor way. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."
He stated being booed "is part of football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "We cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It is on the team to remain more composed, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and calmness to reverse outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it is hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second longest-range top division score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on the same day.
The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
Ten seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson striking – which was five moments following the kick.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the goal line. When not one of them defended the goal, my interest lit up somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which gave me a bit of extra time. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a good sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
While Vicario's mistake dominated headlines, this was an overall bad performance for Spurs to extend their home struggles.
The match was their tenth at home defeat of the year in the Premier League, a shared club record matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
The side still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and champions the Reds to come prior to the end of the season.
Only one of those wins have occurred after Frank took over from his predecessor in the summer.
"If you are down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," said Frank.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to go against you too – the first was a redirected shot, the second is a error from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered another match. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we lost in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was much better and with luck an aspect we can use to develop."
Spurs have lost 4 consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging 9.5 attempts and three point two shots on target per game in the division – their lowest rates on record in a one campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a high profile role at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
